All Saints C of E Primary School,为nurseryreception的小朋友们带来了关于中国新年的故事与文化。

On 30th January, Ms Li from MM Chinese Club visited All Saints C of E Primary School, sharing stories and cultural insights about the Chinese New Year with the nursery and reception children.

The lesson began with the practical greeting "Xīn Nián Hǎo" (Happy New Year), allowing the British primary school students to learn how to exchange New Year wishes in Chinese. Regardless of age or year group, the students demonstrated impressive learning and pronunciation skills. During the activity of guessing the Chinese zodiac animals, their imaginations ran wild. In addition to the 12 animals traditionally associated with the Chinese zodiac, some students also guessed animals like cats, raccoons, foxes, and owls. After learning about the actual animals and their order in the Chinese zodiac, Teacher Li demonstrated the Chinese pronunciation of each animal and encouraged the students to practise and mimic the sounds.

In addition, Ms. Li introduced the students to various traditional customs that Chinese people observe during the Lunar New Year, as well as the concept of one's "Ben Ming Nian" (Zodiac Year of Birth). During the New Year celebrations, families not only gather to enjoy festive meals together but also sit around the television to watch the annual Spring Festival GalaDragon and lion dances are also popular events held across different regions to welcome the New Year, and even Chinese communities in the UK follow these traditions. In Manchester’s city centre and Chinatown, the festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year can now be seen everywhere.

Although the first day of the Chinese New Year has passed, the celebrations continue from Chinese New Year's Eve all the way to the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. This allows the students to immerse themselves in the festivities of the Year of the Snake. To give the students a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, Ms. Li showcased traditional Chinese paintings, including A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains, as well as intricate paper-cutting art with strong Spring Festival themes. Ms. Li also introduced the students to hongbao (red envelopes), which are a common tradition during Chinese New Year celebrations. She distributed materials for making red envelopes and encouraged the students to follow her demonstration. Throughout the activity, many students actively engaged with the teacher, and some even showed a notable level of familiarity with Chinese culture.

All Saints C of E Primary School来说,都是一次极为难得且珍贵的体验。

At the end of the class, many students expressed their fondness for the teacher from MM Chinese Club, warmly hugging her as they said their goodbyes. This was a truly special and memorable experience for both Miaomiao Chinese Language Workshop and All Saints C of E Primary School.
