Greetings! I am Ms. Kelin, the Chinese teacher at Granton Primary School for this term. As we approach the end of the spring term, I would like to summarise your children's learning achievements and introduce our teaching plans for the next term. This will help you support your child in practising Chinese during the Easter holiday and prepare them for the upcoming learning goals.
Review of this Term's Learning Focus
This term's curriculum was designed to spark students' interest in the Chinese language and culture through the "Dream Board" concept. Each lesson began with a Chinese song to teach pronunciation, followed by writing exercises and interactive games to enhance their expression skills.
Teaching Highlights
14 Jan | Theme: My Dream Board
Introduced differences between Chinese and English expressions, incorporating students' dreams to learn how to describe them in Chinese.
21 Jan | Theme: Numbers
Learned pronunciation and writing of numbers 0-10 through rhythmic Chinese rap songs.
Introduced special hand gestures for numbers 6-10 used by Chinese people.
28 Jan | Theme: Chinese New Year
Explored Chinese New Year customs such as hanging spring couplets and setting off fireworks.
Practised writing "Happy New Year" greetings on red paper.
4 Feb | Theme: What’s Your Name?
Used different styles of Chinese songs to learn everyday dialogues like "What's your name?" "My name is..."
Practised writing core Chinese characters and learned basic writing rules.
11 Feb | Theme: My Name
Reviewed everyday dialogues and personalised name cards for each student to help them write their names in Chinese.
25 Feb | Theme: Review & Colours
Reviewed previous lessons through fun games.
Introduced colour vocabulary: "red, yellow, blue, purple, green, orange, black, white, gold, silver, pink, brown" with pronunciation practice.
4 Mar | Theme: Colours
Continued learning colour vocabulary and started writing exercises.
11 Mar | Theme: Tasty Fruits
Reviewed colour vocabulary and introduced fruit topics.
Learned how to express preferences like "I like red apples" or "I don't like green avocados," with writing practice.
18 Mar | Theme: Mother’s Day
Special end-of-term activity: Writing a Chinese letter to mum.
Based on students' preferences, challenged them to write one or two complete Chinese sentences.
Next Term Teaching Plan

Through these themes, we will gradually expand children's Chinese vocabulary and strengthen their ability to express themselves in different contexts. The curriculum will combine interactive activities, cultural experiences, and practical expression training to enhance their Chinese proficiency in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

介绍中国人用单手表达6-10的特殊手势。
1月28日 | 主题:中国新年
探索中国新年的民俗,如贴春联、放烟花等。
练习在红纸上写“新年快乐”祝福语。
2月4日 | 主题:你叫什么名字?
通过不同风格的中文歌曲学习日常对话:“你叫什么名字?”“我叫……”
练习核心汉字书写,并学习基本书写规则。
2月11日 | 主题:我的名字
复习日常对话,并为每位学生定制专属字帖,帮助他们用中文书写自己的名字。
2月25日 | 主题:复习与颜色
通过有趣的游戏复习之前学习的内容。
介绍颜色词汇:“红黄蓝紫绿橙黑白金银粉棕”并进行发音练习。
3月4日 | 主题:颜色
继续深入学习颜色词汇,并开始书写练习。
3月11日 | 主题:美味水果
复习颜色词汇,并引入水果话题。
学习如何表达喜好,如“我喜欢红色的苹果”或“我不喜欢绿色的牛油果”,并进行书写练习。
3月18日 | 主题:母亲节
期末特别活动:写给妈妈的一封中文信。
根据学生的意愿,挑战他们写一到两个完整的中文句子。
下学期教学计划
